AM I DEALING WITH A 'DIFFICULT CHARACTER'?

Whether it is in our work or personal life most of us will come across individuals, from time to time, who repeatedly behave unreasonably, manipulatively and/or dishonestly. Your tried and tested open communication and reasoning skills just don’t seem to work - each time you try to communicate you are shut down, ignored or your words are turned back on you. You may find that some of this behaviour may be subtle to the point that those around you might not be as aware of it as you are, which makes the situation even harder to manage.

Unchecked difficult characters can leave us feeling confused, upset, undermined, frustrated or even scared. Sometimes it can lead to a feeling of powerlessness or psychological distress.

WHY INVEST IN THIS COACHING?

This one-to-one, confidential coaching will help you to:

  • feel well-supported

  • develop an understanding of the typical behaviours of difficult characters, including early warning signs, and how to manage them

  • grow your resilience to difficult characters

  • develop strategies for dealing with your real-life situation(s)

  • avoid damaging your reputation and keep your integrity

  • rehearse approaches for dealing with your/a real-life difficult character

  • prevent a situation escalating into a conflict or producing other negative outcomes.

WHAT IS THE COACHING PROCESS?

The process starts with you setting your own goals for the coaching and clarifying the dynamics and history that have led to seek support and learning through coaching.

The coaching begins with one long coaching session and is followed by several shorter sessions. The coaching is focused on your specific situation and customised to your needs. Towards the end of the process you will be able to rehearse potential conversations with your difficult character person prepared and confident.

After your real-life courageous conversation (if you are having one) you will be able to debrief in a safe and confidential setting - reflecting on what worked well and not so well, fine-tuning your difficult person management skills, and setting your own next steps, where relevant.

WHAT ARE MY DELIVERY OPTIONS?

The coaching can be delivered face-to-face, by video conference or over the phone, as you require.
