WHY HAVE A COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS?
At some point, we all find ourselves feeling uneasy about a difficult conversation and concerned about how the other person (or our self) will react in the moment.
Often, because of this discomfort, we put off the conversation for too long, or avoid it altogether – this can cause the situation to escalate or lead to the loss of a valuable opportunity.
A timely, courageous conversation can prevent a conflict, sustain and strengthen relationships, and create unexpected new openings. Courageous conversation skills give you the confidence and capability to:
deliver or receive bad news
apologise for something significant
bridge a significant gap to reach agreement
address performance or delivery issues
ask for help or money
talk about health, wellness, and other sensitive issues
speak with a disaffected or likely unsupportive group of people
say ‘no’ when under pressure to say ‘yes’
discuss differences or equity issues
present a challenging position, and more...
